Shrewsbury Police Patrolman James Lonchiadis

The cold blooded killing of Shrewsbury, MA Police Patrolman James Lonchiadis shocked the nation. Patrolman Lonchiadis was shot at point blank range as he begged for his life and told his killer that he had a wife and two children. On the night of Wednesday, March 5, 1975, Patrolman Lonchiadis was investigating the theft of a car from a Route 9 gas station. 16 year old, 62 Edgar Bowser wrestled Lonchiadis' gun from him, forced him into a car trunk, and shot and killed him. In 1978, Bowser was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled in 2008, but his parole was revoked and he returned to prison in 2011 after testing positive for cocaine. He was released again last month under the state's medical parole statute. Read more about Bowser's "compassionate release" in this Telegram newspaper article. Patrolman Lonchiadis' son James currently serves as a Lieutenant on the Shrewsbury Police Department.
