Shannon Lofland, a 21-year veteran of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in Colorado, resigned after it was revealed she had been appearing in pornographic videos. Lofland, 44, turned to adult films due to financial struggles, including a storm in June 2023 that caused $500,000 in damage to her home, high interest rates, and rising living costs. She described her decision as one made out of desperation to support her family.

Lofland admitted to not seeking permission for her side job, which violated department policy. Despite this, she stated, "I found a legal, lucrative means for providing that support for my family that I needed at that time to save my home for them and feed my family," she told KCNC-TV.

Lofland's story has garnered support from many who sympathize with her financial plight. She made enough money from her brief stint in adult films to cover her mortgage, and she emphasized that the industry was professional, with no pressure or coercion.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the matter, citing privacy and due process issues. Lofland, who also served on the state's Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, stepped down from her role there as well.

Despite her resignation, Lofland expressed her love for her job and the impact she had in her support role. She has not ruled out continuing in the adult film industry as she considers her next steps.
