Authorities have provided new details about the investigation into the murders of four University of Idaho students.

In an update on Tuesday (November 15), the City of Moscow Police Department said, "investigators believe that an edged weapon such as a knife was used."

"Also, based on information from the preliminary investigation, investigators believe this was an isolated, targeted attack, and there is no imminent threat to the community at large," officials wrote.

Officials said they are awaiting the results of the autopsies to determine how the four students died.

The victims were identified as freshman Ethan Chapin, 20, junior Xana Kernodle, 20, senior Madison Mogen, 21, and senior Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

The four posted a photo together, along with two other students, just hours before they were killed.

There are still no suspects in the case, and investigators have not determined a motive for the murders.

"Words cannot adequately describe the light these students brought to this world or ease the depth of suffering we feel at their passing under these tragic circumstances," University of Idaho President Scott Green said in a statement. "No one feels that loss more than their families and friends. The university is working directly with those affected and is committed to supporting all students, families, and employees as this event undeniably touches all of us."
