Rumors have circulated for decades that Springfield's longtime congressman is somewhat Kennedyesque when it comes to women. These "stories" about Richard Neal could be just idle talk in the district, but both Neal's friends and foes have freely shared them with me. I have no evidence to suggest these rumors are true and I really don't care whether or not the chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee is faithful to his wedding vows. However, I do know that Richie Neal is faithful to the current Democrat tax and spend mantra. In a leaked House Ways and Means Committee plan to increase taxes by $3 trillion, the Wall Street Journal reports that, "Neal has said that detailing tax-increase plans too soon can give too much time for opposition to build.” Neal elaborated on the delay tactic in an interview with the New York Times saying, “I’m likely to hold off on the pay-fors until we are at the altar.” Neal explained the metaphor by comparing the strategy of disclosing the tax plan's details at the last minute to convincing a woman to marry you and then revealing your secrets at the altar. Why would someone who is the subject of widespread infidelity rumors make such a comparison? Click below for my podcast.
