Detective Roy Joseph Sergei was gunned down by a man who had just shot another officer as they were responding to a domestic disturbance call on Commonwealth Avenue on October 26, 1987. The man fled to Mexico but was caught and extradited back to Boston where he was tried and sentenced to life in prison.
