It's The 75th Anniversary Of Quint's Real USS Indianapolis Story In "Jaws."

The fictional character Quint in the movie "Jaws" was a sailor on the USS Indianapolis. Nearly 900 of the 1,196 crew members died as a result of her sinking on July 30, 1945. The Indianapolis was hit by Japanese torpedoes after delivering the atomic bomb to a south Pacific island. Today is the 75th anniversary of this secret mission turned tragedy. It remains the largest shark attack in history. Sharks killed 150 sailors as they waited in the water for rescue. Only 316 crew members survived.
