Coast Guard Rescues Dog Swimming Off Florida Beach

The night crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach had just started a training exercise in the Gulf of Mexico when theyĀ received a call about "a call of a pup in distress."

The crew rushed over to the area andĀ found the dog paddling in the waterĀ and moved their boat to intercept the canine. The dog appeared to ignore the crew as they tried to coax it onto their vessel. Eventually, they managed to get close enough to the dog and pulled to safety.

ā€œHow are you doing, buddy?ā€ one of the men asked the dog after it was on the boat. ā€œYouā€™re the best person Iā€™ve ever rescued.ā€

OfficialsĀ did not say how the dog ended up in the water. The Coast Guard shared photos and a video of the rescue on Facebook.

"Thanks to the crewā€™s expertise in intercepting non-compliant vessels (NCV) and recovering a person in the water (PIW), our 'star' of the night was safely recovered and returned to her owner,"Ā the Coast Guard said in the Facebook post.
