Man Facing Charges In Boston Mom's Kidnapping, Death

Louis Coleman III (Delaware State Police)

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The man suspected of kidnapping and killing a young Dorchester mother will be sent back to Rhode Island to face charges in her death.

Louis Coleman III was arrested in Delaware Thursday afternoon after leading police on a chase on I-95 South. He was arraigned there on a fugitive charge, and will be transported back to his native Rhode Island to face charges of kidnapping, refusal to report a death, and mutilation of a body. His capture marks the end of a four-day manhunt.

The family of Jassy Correia, the woman who had been missing since leaving a downtown Boston club Sunday, said police informed them Correia's body was found in the trunk of Coleman's car.

Correia was last seen leaving the Venu nightclub on Warrenton Street in Boston around 12:15 a.m. Sunday. She was spotted on surveillance video getting into a red vehicle with a man who police believe to be Coleman.

The mom of a two-year-old girl, had been celebrating her 23rd birthday.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Correia.

At a press conference Friday, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said it is unclear if Coleman will be facing charges in Boston as the case is complicated in spread through three states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Delaware.

"There are moving parts in all of them. To protect the integrity of the evidence we have gathered, there are many aspects we simply cannot discuss today," said Rollins. "Whatever this case is ultimately charge, wherever it's charged and tried will be based on the evidence of the law."

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, echoed "No family deserves this," he said "Women should be able to traverse where ever they want this city," he said.

Both Gross and Rollins sand they they were committed to finding justice for the family and hope to bring the case back to Boston in Suffolk County or U.S. District Court in Massachusetts. Gross added that there is significant motivation on everyone involved.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help care for Correia's two-year-old daughter. As of Friday morning, it had exceeded its $50,000 goal.

"Any and all additional money raised will be used to setup college fund for Jassy’s daughter," the page read. "Please help Jassy’s family in this very difficult time of need as we suffer through this horrific tragedy."
