Driver, Passengers Involved In Bus Crash on I-95 In NH Seriously Injured

GREENLAND, NH --- Major traffic tie-up on parts of Interstate 95 South in Greenland, NH  after a small shuttle bus went off the road and crashed into a tree Friday morning seriously injuring the driver.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. near mile marker 10.6.

NH State Police Lt John Hennessey tell WBZ NewsRadio1030 Kim Tunnicliffe that  it was a chaotic & hectic scene after a van carrying 11  children and & two counselors from the Kittery, Maine Community Center.

"It appears the vehicle drove off the roadway, into the woodline and struck a large tree, causing significant damage to the front end. Most of the children did have seatbelts on. There were some significant injuries to include injuries to the driver, a 21 year old male and injuries to an 18 year old camp counselor," he said.

He says drivers pulled over to help.

Police say that one child was seriously injured, their age was not known, they along with the camp councelor and driver were all transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

They are looking at whether the driver had a medical emergency before going off the right side of the road.

The cab of the bus, with Maine plates was heavily damaged.
