There is a looming crisis in policing. The constant narrative that police are racist and policing must be reformed is taking it's toll on the ranks of officers. There are record high retirements and record low recruiting numbers. If the trend continues, there will be few officers left to reform. Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood has refused to bend to the negativity and call her department "systemically racist" despite immense political pressure.
