Remember Spencer, MA Patrolman Richard McEvoy who died this day in 1982.

Spencer Police Patrolman Richard McEvoy was shot by an escapee from a state mental institution on September 14, 1971 in East Brookfield. He was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for over a decade. He suffered greatly and his condition worsened until his death on March 24, 1982. Patrolman McEvoy was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and had served with the Spencer Police Department for four years at the time of the shooting. He was survived by his wife.
